About Jillian Bilbrough

Jillian Bilbrough is a textile artist and educator with over 26 years of experience. Formerly a bridal embroidery designer, she now focuses on her own textile art, combining technical skill with creative innovation.

The Story

My work celebrates stitch, surface, and the stories carried by timeworn objects. Through fabric painting, free-motion machine embroidery, and hand stitching, I layer colour, texture, and thread to create pieces that honour the past.

I draw deep inspiration from vintage embroidery, aged papers, antique textiles, and the delicate patterns found in old china.

My connection to fabric and design began as a Saturday girl at Laura Ashley, and making has always been part of my heritage. My great-grandmother owned a Singer sewing shop in Yorkshire, and her passion for craftsmanship continues to shape my creative process today.
